THE
EXPRESS INKA TRAIL TO MACHUPICCHU

This is a fascinating short trek for people that do not have
enough time. It is one of the best combinations to see the Andes Mountains and
Machupicchu in two days.
ITINERARY :
Day 1:
Early morning pick up from your Hotel and transfer to the
railway station to take the train to the 104 Km on the route
to Machupicchu. By this point we get off the train and start our journey
crossing the Willkamayu River (Urubamba River) using a spectacular bridge
(cable and wood made). We start the trek visiting the famous
Inka Sanctuary of Chachabamba, a beautiful palace with nice rooms and walls.
We start ascending throughout a narrow path to a
special spot on the face of the mountain (2,780m) from where there is an
imposing view of the Sacred Valley, and if there are no clouds the snow capped
peaks of the Andes too.
We descend and the Jungle becomes visible
on the slopes of the mountains, from this point our trail continues through the
rain forest with exotic flowers and luxuriant trees. Around here forest is so
different and we can easily feel the environment humidity.
We will arrive to the Wiñaywayna Ruins (2591m), a fascinating
Inka Citadel and an experimental laboratory for agricultural purposes in Inkan
times. We will have lunch around here.
Early in the afternoon we will reach Inti Punku (Sun Gate),
and suddenly we will have a fantastic view of the “Lost City
of the Inkas”: Machupicchu; the highlight of any trip to South America. The
whole environment is really impressive and will surely leave a nice souvenir for
everyone enjoying this moment.
We will walk down crossing the Inkan City
of Machupicchu to the (Aguas Calientes) Machupicchu Town. Overnight in one of
the several lodges in town.
During the evening you will have the option for visiting the
nearby town of Aguas Calientes and enjoy its thermal springs.
Day 2:
The final morning is spent in the Machupicchu Archaeological
Site for exploring its temples, stairways palaces, etc. You will be able to
relax, meditate and get the energy of this famous spot, or just enjoy the calm
environment of this Sacred Inkan City.
In the afternoon we will catch the train back to Cusco. Once
in the city you will be driven to your hotel.

It is
advisable to bring the following personal equipment:
Canteen,
flashlight, matches, knife, insect repellent, sun screen, trekking boots
(preferably waterproof with ankle protectors), sun hat or cap, towel, toilet
paper, raincoat (plastic poncho).
It is
recommended to bring light clothing for the sunny days. Depending on your
interests also carry a photo or film camera, binoculars, sun glasses, compass.
Porters are not provided so we recommend that your equipment should have a light
or moderate weight.
